Client Profile:
Problem Statement:
This action sports retailer realized that in order to stay ahead of
its competitors and expand its customer base outside of the local
geography, it was going to have to start offering its customers the
ability to purchase products online. Up until this point the client
had been relying upon a friend of the family to help create their
current website, which was split among a vanity flash site and a template
driven outsourced commerce provider. The largest challenge this client
faced was not having someone who could help guide the development process and
help make strategic decisions when it came to specific technology/feature
choices for a commerce driven website.
The Technical Challenge:
From the technical perspective it was imperative that we find a application
service provider (ASP) based technology that we could leverage to run this
commerce site. The reason we needed to use an ASP was due to the
fact the client had no in house IT staff to support an 24/7 online store, and
an ASP model would be able to provide this support. An
additional requirement in choosing a base technology was that it needed to be
highly customizable to meet the clients evolving requirements and
features that they needed to implement on their website. After
reviewing and researching over two dozen service providers we selected one that
had 24/7 support and offered us direct access to the code base to make
modifications as we saw fit. This direct access to the code
base became highly valuable as it allowed the client to make quick revisions
and changes to the site, that they would have otherwise been unable to do with
a more standard template driven website.
Results:

Client online sales rose from under $1,000 per month to over $40,000 per
month during the holiday season.

customers across all of the United States, Western and Eastern Europe, and the
Pan-Pacific.
