Client Profile:
Problem Statement:
This health care product manufacturer was experiencing rapid growth
(50% increase in annual revenues from the prior year) and its current
IT solutions were failing to keep up with this growth. The
client was looking for a fully integrated solution that drove sales
through a user friendly automated front end
to their accounting system and then into a shipping/fulfillment
package. Additionally, due to the nature of the
clients multi-level-marketing program, they needed a completely new
commission system that could compute
real-time commissions within a 1 million
member plus genealogy.
The Technical Challenge:
The largest technical challenge faced on this engagement was determining where
custom written interfaces would integrate with pre-built software
packages. Microsoft Great Plains was decided upon as the accounting and
back-office system with an additional third party package to support an
automated bar-code reading pick-ticket and fulfillment system. The
functional requirements for this clients customer service and in-house sales
department required writing a custom application. Both the customer
service-sales front end and custom commissioning system were written as thick
client VB6.0 implementations; integrated into Microsoft Great Plains for order
entry, fulfillment, and commissioning. In order to produce real-time
commissions, we designed a proprietary encoding and non-recursive sorting
algorithm that allowed downline commissions to be calculated in under 1 minute,
for what previously was taking over 20 minutes to compute.
Results:
