Dashboard
construction and integration
involves several development
and integration efforts that
include: aggregating all
source data into an
dashboard optimized format;
creating integration
services to feed data to the
dashboards at run-time; and
finally, testing the
complete solution
end-to-end.
Integrate Source Data
Most dashboard projects
usually require rolling up
detailed transactional
business information into
higher level summary
information that needs to be
analyzed across multiple
dimensions (time, product,
territory, etc..)
In this step, we either
create an optimized
dashboard data mart with a
corresponding
extraction/transformation/load
(ETL) package that loads
source business data into an
optimized format, or we
create specialized
integration services that
collect data directly from
source systems.
Integrate Dashboard
Prototypes and Finalize
Formats
Once we have automated the
data feed process we then
need to dynamically link
this data into our dashboard
designs. This process
often involves restructuring
of the underling
visualization mechanisms
with multiple live data
feeds per dashboard.
By leveraging web service
technologies we are able to
create flexible parameter
driven data connections that
allow the user to drill and
slice across a variety of
information for a given
dashboard.
Solution Testing
After all data feeds have
been created and the dashboards integrated into
those feeds, we begin system
testing. This testing
involves multiple
iterations of loading
real life business data in
combination with dashboard
functional testing. By
testing the whole solution
end-to-end with real
business data we can
validate the accuracy of all
information being presented
as well as the security,
performance and scalability
of the solution. .
